Dravannti Johnson (June 14, 2007), currently ranked #110

N2FL:  At what age did you start playing football?

D.J.:  4th grade

N2FL:  When and who was your first scholarship offer?

D.J.:  July, UTEP

N2FL:  How many scholarship offers do you currently have?

D.J.:  12, my coach let me know if I hadn't committed early, I'd be over 25.

N2FL:  What was your favorite college team growing up?

D.J.:  Texas

N2FL:  Any particular reason for the jersey number?

D.J.:  No, looked like a good DE/LB number (#44) and the Sr. that had it the year before was a FB.

N2FL:  You committed to Texas in April after first choosing Texas A&M, what changed your mind and why did you decide to end the process so early?

D.J.:  The commitment started to sink in and I realized that A&M may not be where I want to be in the long run. I didn't feel 100% comfortable in the defense and I'm born in Austin and always have been a longhorn fan, so when I realized I had a chance to play for them and have a shot at getting on the field and getting a great degree I took the opportunity. I ended it so early because I was sure that's where I wanted to be and saw no point to drag the process out any longer

N2FL:  What were some of the considerations when choosing your school?

D.J.:  Playing time was of course an issue, but also what position I'd be playing and in what type of defense. Location played a role, I didn't want to be too far but if it was the right school for me, then I was prepared to take a journey. The team itself mattered, I wanted to be on a winning team and also have a chance to be coached by guys that know what they're doing and have a chance to go to the next level.

N2FL:  What position would you prefer to play in college? Who is recruiting you to play where?

D.J.:  Everyone has recruited me as a OLB even though I'm a DE/LB. I feel I'm a true OLB and that's where my future lies in my eyes, but schools including Texas have mentioned that I may very well be coming off the edge like I've been doing.

N2FL:  Who was your lead recruiter at Texas?

D.J.:  Coach Oscar Giles

N2FL:  Are there any schools who continue to recruit you despite your commitment to Texas?

D.J.:  Yes, even after my A&M commitment I still received about 4 offers, but after Texas they died down. My coach let them know I'm final.

N2FL:  Despite your pledge to the Longhorns, will you take any "official visits" anywhere else?

D.J.:  Not a chance, I'm a Horn and I'm sticking with it.

N2FL:  Was there another school(s) in consideration before you ultimately pulled the trigger on Texas?

D.J.:  Oklahoma was my other leader, I loved their tradition of winning and the LB coach really knew what he was doing, but also LSU, Nebraska, Ok St., Florida and a few others were always in consideration.

N2FL:  What are some of your playing strengths?

D.J.:  At DE it's my quickness and ability to not stay blocked for long, at LB its my ability to make plays sideline to sideline and relentlessness to make the play.

N2FL:  What are some things you would like to work on between now and college?

D.J.:  Footwork, Speed, Strength.

N2FL:  How do you feel about Redshirting?

D.J.:  Not a problem, I'd use it to my advantage if I wasn't able to get considerable playing time as a Fr.

N2FL:  Do you have a major in mind?

D.J.:  Sports Medicine.

N2FL:  What are your goals for your senior season?

D.J.:  Help my team be the best we can be on defense and also on offense, and also go out with a bang and leave my name known well.

N2FL:  What is the craziest recruiting "pitch" you have heard so far?

D.J.:  That another school doesn't NEED you, they are full, you can play a lot faster here which I take as a insult cause I feel I can play anywhere given the opportunity.

N2FL:  Have you communicated with any prospective recruits about attending Texas with you?

D.J.:  We were so full, so fast, there was no need to attract guys here, but me and Joseph Ibiloye, Aundre Dean, Damion Square, Russell Shepard ('09 recruit) talked about it a little..

N2FL:  Who has been the biggest influence in your life?

D.J.:  My mother by far. She's a single parent and has kept me on track all along and continues to do so.
