Brian Slay (June 1, 2008)
N2FL: At what age did you start playing football?
B.S.: I was 5 when I started playing.
N2FL: When and who was your first scholarship offer?
B.S.: Back in February N.C. State offered me.
N2FL: How many scholarship offers do you currently have?
B.S.: Just N.C. State. A few have tried to offer but I let them know that I am a SOLID commit to N.C. State.
N2FL: What was your favorite college team growing up?
B.S.: Virginia Tech
N2FL: Have a favorite NFL Team?
B.S.: Dallas Cowboys
N2FL: Do you try and emulate any specific player?
B.S.: DeMarcus Ware, the guy is crazy good.
N2FL: Any particular reason for the jersey number?
B.S.: No not really, I wore #59 this year because when I moved to my new school, that was the only jersey left.
N2FL: You were the first 2009 commit for N.C. State in early March, why did you decide to end your recruitment so early?
B.S.: After my visit, I knew that I couldn’t see myself playing anywhere else.
N2FL: What were some of the considerations when choosing your school?
B.S.: The coaching staff is great. I really connected with Coach (Keith) Willis, my position coach. They have really good people in and outside of that school. I like the area and I can’t wait to be apart of the Wolfpack.
N2FL: Are there any schools who continue to recruit you despite your commitment?
B.S.: Yes, but they all know that I am a hard commit.
N2FL: Who was your lead recruiter at N.C. State?
B.S.: Coach Keith Willis, not only is he a great coach but he is a great person.
N2FL: Despite your pledge to the Wolfpack, will you take any "official visits" anywhere else?
B.S.: I don’t think so.
N2FL: Was there another school(s) in consideration before you pulled the trigger on the Wolfpack, and what was it about N.C. State that ultimately sold you on them?
B.S.: Yes there was a few but I was thinking hard on N.C. State the week before my visit and after being there, I was sold on State. I was sold on them because they have a great coaching staff, I feel like they are building a solid program.
N2FL: What do you view as some of your playing strengths?
B.S.: I’m very quick off the ball and I can chase plays down from the back side.
N2FL: What are some things you would like to work on between now and college?
B.S.: My strength. Once I get stronger I will add a whole new dimension to my game.
N2FL: What positions are you being recruited to play?
B.S.: Defensive End and Defensive Tackle
N2FL: Where does N.C. State plan on playing you?
B.S.: I’m guessing at either D-end or tackle. It’s too early to tell, I’ll know this time next year.
N2FL: How do you feel about Redshirting?
B.S.: It’s definitely an option. It would give me a year to work out, to get the feel for the whole college thing and a year to get on top of school work. Ultimately I want to play, but I will trust the coaching staff to do what’s best for me and the team.
N2FL: Do you have a major in mind?
B.S.: I’m thinking criminal justice.
N2FL: What are your goals for your senior season?
B.S.: Stay healthy and try to repeat as State Champions. My goal is to work hard on the field and in the classroom. I will try to got out and play hard every play and never give up.
N2FL: What is the craziest recruiting "pitch" you have heard so far?
B.S.: “Why N.C. State? They haven't been to any bowl games in years", "Don’t you want to play for Champions", "We have so much more to offer", "We have this and we have that.”...I just let it be known that I am committed to N.C. State and believe we will be ACC champions and hopefully National Champions in the near future.
N2FL: Have you communicated with any prospective recruits about attending N.C. State with you?
B.S.: Yeah I'm talking to a few other people right now.
N2FL: Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
B.S.: My mom, she has been there for me since day one, and I know that she will always be there for me.
