Jarvis Giles (May 13, June 17 & November 25, 2008), currently ranked #87

N2FL:  At what age did you start playing football?

J.G.:  I started playing football at the age of 7.

N2FL:  What was your favorite college team growing up?

J.G.:  Well I was in love with Florida State.

N2FL:  Have a favorite NFL Team?

J.G.:  Yeah, San Diego Chargers.

N2FL:  Do you try and emulate any specific player?

J.G.:  Yeah L.T., that's my boy.

N2FL:  Any particular reason for the jersey number?

J.G.:  lol, Well number 3 wasn't really the number I wanted to tell you the truth. I picked it because it's a prime number and so I guess it's lucky to me.

N2FL:  When and who was your first scholarship offer?

J.G.:  I don't know when they came in, but I think South Florida, Central Florida and Florida were my first offers.

N2FL:  How many scholarship offers do you currently have?

J.G.:  17

N2FL:  What are some of the considerations you have when deciding between schools?

J.G.:  Well I am not just going to college for football you know. I am also going there for school and to be a student. I want to stand out in the major I want to career in. But as far as location, it really don't matter to me. Right now I am still deciding if I want to stay in Florida or not because I have family in Tennessee and they offered me already. So right now they are kind of at the top of my list.

N2FL:  Who are the schools currently on your list for consideration? Any leader(s)?

J.G.:  Nebraska, Tennessee, Arkansas, Clemson and Florida State.

N2FL:  Who is currently recruiting you the hardest?

J.G.:  Tennessee

N2FL:  Has any school discussed the idea of playing a position other than RB?

J.G.:  No, all the schools that offered me so far wants me to come in and play RB.

N2FL:  Have you thought about who you might want to "officially visit"?

J.G.:  Umm...Tennessee, Nebraska.

N2FL:  What do you feel are some of your playing strengths?

J.G.:  Well I am a multi-type back so I have speed, I have the ability to catch the ball in the open field and make big plays. I have the strength to run the ball up the middle and have good vision.

N2FL:  What are some things you would like to work on between now and college?

J.G.:  Pretty much everything, I mean there is always room for improvement.

N2FL:  How do you feel about Redshirting?

J.G.:  Well I really don't mind; there would be a reason they redshirted me so...but I would like to come in and get a chance to start or get some PT to get my name out there early.

N2FL:  Do you have a major in mind?

J.G.:  Surgical Technologist.

N2FL:  What are your goals for your senior season?

J.G.:  Pretty much beat the amount of rushing yards that I had last season and to be number 1 in Hillsborough county.

N2FL:  What is the craziest recruiting "pitch" you have heard so far?

J.G.:  "Jarvis Giles, we need you! You will come up here and start right away"! lol.

N2FL:  Do you have a time frame as to when you would like to commit?

J.G.:  Well I mean I would like to make it before this football season. So pretty much my visits will decide everything for me.

N2FL:  Who has been the biggest influence in your life?

J.G.:  I will have to say my older brother because he has already been through all of this and knows how it feels to have all the pressure. I just talk to him about it and it really helps me a lot. But other than that, my brother is the reason I started playing football. I remember watching him run up and down the field and getting hit and laying big hits, and I was like daddy can I play football next year and he said "Jarvis football is a mans sport. You have to bring the pain when you are on that field."

*Post Commitment Follow-up*

N2FL:  Congratulations on your commitment to Tennessee. Who were the other schools you considered before settling in on the Vols?

J.G.:  Well thanks, I was considering Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina and Nebraska.

N2FL:  Who was your lead recruiter at Tennessee?

J.G.:  RB coach, Stan Drayton

N2FL:  What made Tennessee stand out from the other schools in consideration?

J.G.:  Well the most important part was that I built a strong relationship with the coaches and we have trust in one another.

N2FL:  In your May 13th interview, you expressed the desire to visit Tennessee and Nebraska officially. Will you still see Nebraska at some point?

J.G.:  No. I am done with my visits. Tennessee is the place I am at and will stay.

N2FL:  Although you are now committed, have other schools continued to recruit you?

J.G.:  Well I still get mail like every day from Florida State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Clemson and a lot more schools.

*De-Commitment Follow-up*

N2FL:   Since coach Fulmer was fired at Tennessee, prompting your de-commitment, you have officially visited South Carolina. How was your visit to Columbia?

J.G.:  Well the visit went great. A lot of things stood out to me over there and how I am a big need to the program. Also how I can help them and that I may be the missing part of the puzzle. All of that so I would say the visit went great.

N2FL:  Which schools stayed in contact with you the most after your commitment to Tennessee in June?

J.G.:  lol I would say South Carolina and Clemson, that's about it.

N2FL:  You are scheduled to visit Nebraska this coming weekend. What are you going to be looking for to compare with South Carolina?

J.G.:  pretty much I am just going up there to compare and contrast, that's all. To see what they have to offer me and what role I can play in their program and for their team.

N2FL:  When you committed to Tennessee in June, you told N2FL that you also considered Georgia, Clemson, South Carolina and Nebraska. Are Georgia and Clemson still in the mix?

J.G.:  Georgia is not in the mix at all and as for Clemson; I talk to a coach every now and then but they are going through the same thing as Tennessee right now.

N2FL:  Who are the schools currently under consideration for your signature come February 4th? Is there a school to beat?

J.G.:  Well I am going to be an early graduate, lol, so my signature would be in December. But I would say South Carolina is my number one school as of right now.

N2FL:  Are there any other schools you want to officially visit?

J.G.:  umm not really, not at the moment. I am still thinking about that.

N2FL:  When do you now see yourself committing?

J.G.:  umm I don't really know. I wanted to do it on TV at the All-American game.
