Sean Stanley (May 11th & 29th, 2008)
N2FL: At what age did you start playing football?
S.S.: I started playing football at the age of ten, in 5th grade.
N2FL: What was your favorite college team growing up?
S.S.: I used to live in Louisiana and I was a big LSU fan.
N2FL: Have a favorite NFL Team?
S.S.: My favorite NFL team would have to be the Jaguars because I like watching their defensive line.
N2FL: Do you try and emulate any specific player?
S.S.: I try to play like Julius Peppers because I like his athleticism.
N2FL: Any particular reason for the jersey number?
S.S.: There's no real reason why I picked number 92.
N2FL: When and who was your first scholarship offer?
S.S.: Maryland gave me my first scholarship at their first game on September 1, 2007.
N2FL: How many scholarship offers do you currently have?
S.S.: Right now I have about 23 written offers with about 7 or 8 more verbal.
N2FL: What are some of the considerations you have when deciding between schools?
S.S.: I just want a team that I can make an impact on and fit into their scheme. And I want a school with a good business program.
N2FL: Who are the schools currently on your list for consideration? Any leader(s)?
S.S.: Right now everyone is still about the same, but I am excited about getting down to see Clemson, Miami and Georgia.
N2FL: Who is currently recruiting you the hardest?
S.S.: Maryland is probably recruiting me the hardest right now.
N2FL: What positions are you being recruited to play?
S.S.: Most schools are recruiting me to play DE, but some want me to move inside to DT and a few think I can move to linebacker.
N2FL: Have you thought about who you might want to "officially visit"?
S.S.: No I haven't really thought about it yet. After I've gone everywhere I want this summer, I'll probably be able to name my top 5.
N2FL: What do you feel are some of your playing strengths?
S.S.: My strength is my pass rush ability. I had 17 sacks last season.
N2FL: What are some things you would like to work on between now and college?
S.S.: I'd like to get a little faster.
N2FL: How do you feel about Redshirting?
S.S.: I have no problem redshirting.
N2FL: Do you have a major in mind?
S.S.: I'd like to do something in business, I'm just not sure what yet.
N2FL: What are your goals for your senior season?
S.S.: I want to get 20 sacks and win State.
N2FL: What is the craziest recruiting "pitch" you have heard so far?
S.S.: There hasn't really been a crazy recruiting pitch.
N2FL: Do you have a time frame as to when you would like to commit?
S.S.: Unless something stands out this summer, then I probably won't commit until after my senior season.
N2FL: Have you communicated with any prospective recruits about attending the same school?
S.S.: No, me and Travis Hawkins have joked about it before though.
|
*Post Commitment Follow-up* |
N2FL: Congratulations on your commitment to Penn State. Who were the other schools you considered before settling in on the Lions?
S.S.: Other than Penn State I was considering Georgia, Nebraska and Miami (Fla.).
N2FL: What position does Penn State plan to play you?
S.S.: Right now they plan on playing me at Defensive End as a 5 technique. That's where I'm most comfortable at.
N2FL: Who was your lead recruiter at Penn State?
S.S.: Coach Larry Johnson was my recruiter. He is a great guy and is also the defensive line coach. He is one of the reasons I picked Penn State.
N2FL: In your May 11th interview, you expressed interest in checking out Clemson, Miami and Georgia. Have you had a chance to see these schools and if not do you still plan to?
S.S.: Yes I had planned on seeing those schools this summer, but I probably wasn't going to be able to do it. I was already sold on Penn State anyway though so it would have taken something pretty impressive to have changed my mind.
N2FL: You had planned on committing after your senior season unless "something stands out this summer." What did Penn State do to stand out and get your commitment?
S.S.: Well I had planned on waiting but really; I just got tired of the whole recruiting process and just wanted to get back fully focused on my lifting and helping my team get better this summer. I went with my early favorite in Penn State and with all the other guys from Maryland committing made it kind of an easy decision.
N2FL: Although you are now committed, will you listen to other schools and keep anyone else in consideration for an official visit?
S.S.: I gave my word to Penn State and I plan to stand by it. The only thing is I kind of regret not going to see Georgia that was probably my second choice but I feel I made the right decision and I'm happy to be a Nittany lion.
